The Consulate General of Argentina in Chicago is pleased to present the exhibition “Absences” from the Argentine photographer Gustavo Germano.

The author of Absences (www.gustavogermano.com) begins his lecture with projected images of Madres de Plaza de Mayo using pictures of their missing soons during the early years of the Argentine dictatorship (1976 – 1977) in order to raise awareness and visibility of the search of their loved ones and the situation that Argentina was living in those days.

It also refers to artistic acts such as The Siluetazo (1983) and photographic works as Thirty thousand (1996) by Fernando Gutiérrez, Good Memory (1996) by Marcelo Brodsky, and Archaeology of Absence (2001) by Lucila Freeze, among others.

In Absences, the second part of the lecture, the photographer traces the development of his photographic project that took almost two years to be completed. He also talks about the "hidden" stories behind the photos, anecdotes of the production and biographical details of the missing people during the Argentine dictatorship.
